Cornwall Voted Favourite UK Country Escape
5000 votes were cast across the 24 award categories that cover everything from the ultimate short break to favourite airline, with readers of the reputable magazine naming Cornwall above all other UK destinations, leaving the Lake District and Scottish Highlands in second and third position respectively.
The award comes hot off the back of Cornwall being crowned Best UK Holiday County or Destination in the British Travel Awards just last month. Malcolm Bell, Head of VisitCornwall, the Cornwall Development Company tourism service for the county, comments: “2010 has been an award-winning year for Cornwall with some highly credible achievements. To be recognised as being the best in national awards which are based in public opinion is significant and offers a massive pat on the back for all those businesses and people that make the Cornish visitor experience what it is.”
Carolyn Rule, Cabinet Member for Economy and Regeneration and Tourism Portfolio Holder, adds: “Cornwall’s list of award wins for 2010 seems to be ever growing and is more than we could have hoped for but knowing the passion that there is for the county, I’m not surprised. Cornwall has a trick of capturing the hearts of anybody that visits and is deeply loved for its unique location and beautiful environment as well as for its quality accommodation, places to eat and things to do. Let’s hope Cornwall’s success continues in 2011.”
