Export Cornwall scheme launched
by Nick Eyriey
The Export Cornwall scheme, which has received ERDF Convergence investment, aims to help small and medium-sized businesses seize the opportunities in global markets.
A workshop called ‘Explore Your Export Potential’ will be held at the Greenbank Hotel in Falmouth October 27 and 28.
Rory Uniacke, head of international trade for UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, said: “This is believed to be the first workshop in the UK designed to help businesses that have never given any serious thought to trading overseas discover if they have what it takes to build profitable international sales.
“Most businesses in Cornwall have never really considered export at all. Yet there are many small Cornish businesses that could achieve terrific success overseas if only their potential were identified and they had the support and training they need.”
The interactive workshop will include an afternoon introduction and dinner for delegates on October 27 and a full day workshop on the following day. The workshop will provide owners and managers of SMEs the opportunity to take an intensive look at whether export is a realistic opportunity for their business and, if so, help them identify their next actions.
It will provide an overview of topics such as developing communications for overseas markets, how to appoint partners overseas such as agents or distributors and how to identify the most profitable overseas markets for your business.
The workshop will also explain how businesses in Cornwall can access help, support and guidance at every stage through the ‘Export Cornwall’ initiative.
